Commission for Cascade Lake Roundabout, Rochester Minnesota 2024
For the Feather/Oars which are 20ft (H)
Initial sketch.
"Hope is the thing with feathers." Emily Dickinson
From The Paul Wissmach Co. American -made beauty for over 120 years.
All made by hand with detail to be "read" up close and from afar.
Over 150 2ft x ft pieces will be fired.
A giant puzzle of color
Each tine must be cut to the exact length and welded in place. Since the feathers are all unique, every piece must be measured and drilled by hand.
Creates a depth of field that is remarkable, and takes a lot of material. A new shipment is ordered.
Nearly 1400 pounds of glass in two shipments arrives from Paden City W. Virginia in perfect condition. Great job team!
"Exceptional beauty," the tag should also say.
And we're busy bees.
Each bar must be bent or cut into tines for the feather.
Can be fun with our assistant Ash.
Awaiting glass
are made. Four more to go.
Each piece is handmade.
½ of one.
A nearby death reminds the Studio how important it is to celebrate the lives of communities, like Rochester, with joy.
We have now, officially, finished the glass. There’s hundreds of panels, each one unique.
Shades us in warm light
The City has laid the foundation at Cascade Park. It overlooks the lake.
These concrete “footings” are made exactly to order. It is a thing of beauty.
Every bolt must be exactly in the correct place
